The Long beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park is comprised of almost 14,000 hectares, named for the longest beach in a 20 km stretch of white sand beaches situated between Tofino and Ucluelet.
There is much to explore in the park where you can wander along a sandy beach, scramble over headlands, peer into tide-pools, marvel at the life beneath a boulder, or watch the fury of the sea against the rocks. The inter-tidal zone teems with over 4,000 marine creatures per square foot, all of which have adapted to withstand pounding waves with a force greater than most other areas in North America.
The mild and wet climate produces an abundance of life; the biomass of these temperate rainforests exceeds that of the Amazon Jungle. Trees in this forest grow up to 15 meters in diameter and can live for more than 1000 years.
