You will find many impressive surf spots all along the west coast of
Vancouver Island but the most accessible by land is the Long Beach area
between Tofino and Ucluelet. This 20 km stretch of beach is the surfing
mecca of the island as it offers a wide variety of surf spots right off the
Pacific Rim Highway.
You can surf all year round but wetsuits are required as the ocean
temperature here hovers at 42-44 deg F (6-7 deg C) for most of the year - and can reach up to 58 degrees F (14 deg C) in the peak of summer. Locals usually have 2 wetsuits: thicker for winter (plus booties and gloves) and thinner for summer.

Of course the most variable aspect to surfing out here are the waves. Spring and fall usually brings moderate swell, (5-6 ft, 10-12 seconds), while winter storm systems can bring larger swells (10-15 ft). The summer months are smaller (3-4 ft), and are usually the best time to learn to surf or get some wave time on a long board.
Our wave riding packages all feature a 3-hour lesson, your choice of group or private. Your first day of surfing will be far more rewarding and safer if you have some guidance and introduction to the equipment and local waters from an experienced surf instructor.
Keeping in mind that two days of consecutive surfing will substantially
progress your surfing more than 1 day and the fact that surfing is
addictive, we include 2 full days of gear rental. Also Included in the wave
riding packages is a park pass, tide charts and ocean safety information.
